When the river Jordan was crossed, it represented a new beginning. (Joshua 3-5)

Prophet Elijah crossed the river Jordan and was carried into Heaven. (2 Kings 2: 6-13). Lord Jesus was also baptized in the River Jordan. (Matthew 3:13) Crossing the river was symbolic of death and resurrection.
